Glenmark Opens Major US Pharmaceutical Distribution Center in Pennsylvania
Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has inaugurated a new distribution center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, marking an important expansion of its operations and pharmaceutical supply chain in the United States.
The new facility will serve as Glenmark’s central distribution hub in the US, supporting the delivery of prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medicines to customers across the country.
Located on a 6.5-acre campus, the distribution center covers approximately 160,000 square feet, making it the company’s largest distribution facility in North America. The site employs 45 people across operations, quality and administrative functions.
According to Glenmark, the facility supports shipments to 321 locations across 43 US states. Since beginning operations, it has already shipped more than 61 million units of pharmaceutical products nationwide.
The center includes specialised storage facilities to maintain the quality and safety of medicines during distribution. These include controlled room-temperature storage, refrigerated cold-chain storage and secure storage areas that meet US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) requirements.
The facility also operates in accordance with applicable US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and DEA regulations.
Marc Kikuchi, President and Business Head, North America, at Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, said the company continues to invest in the people and infrastructure needed to serve patients, customers and partners across the United States. He added that the Allentown facility plays an important role in connecting the company’s manufacturing, innovation and distribution operations.
The inauguration ceremony included a ribbon-cutting event and facility tours attended by Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk, Pennsylvania State Senator Jarrett Coleman, Pennsylvania State Representative Ana Tiburcio and other local government and business representatives.
The new distribution center is part of Glenmark’s broader investment in the US pharmaceutical market. The company employs nearly 400 people across the country and has invested close to $1 billion in its US research and manufacturing capabilities.
This includes nearly $400 million invested in its FDA-approved manufacturing facility in Monroe, North Carolina. Glenmark also operates its US headquarters in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, and its biotechnology subsidiary, Ichnos Glenmark Innovation, in New York.
The company currently has a portfolio of 229 FDA-authorised products, supporting approximately 90 million prescriptions annually in the United States.
Glenmark said the Allentown facility will help strengthen its domestic pharmaceutical supply chain and improve the movement of medicines to customers. The site also incorporates energy-efficiency measures, waste reduction, recycling and improved packaging and delivery practices.
The inauguration reflects Glenmark’s continued focus on expanding its US presence and strengthening its distribution capabilities. With a centralised facility supporting deliveries across 43 states, the company aims to improve supply-chain efficiency and maintain reliable access to its medicines for patients throughout the country.
