Twist Bioscience Launches Faster Antibody Screening Technology

Twist Bioscience has expanded its antibody discovery and development portfolio with the launch of Twist Express Screening Antibodies, a new high-throughput service designed to help researchers evaluate thousands of antibody candidates more quickly.

Announced on October 28, 2026, the new offering aims to support artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)-driven drug discovery by speeding up the process of producing and testing antibodies. The company said the service can provide initial results with turnaround times starting in as little as five days.

The new service uses a cell-free production process to generate purified full-length immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies, as well as other antibody formats. Researchers can then assess how well these candidates bind to their intended targets using surface plasmon resonance (SPR), a technology used to measure antibody binding interactions.

The platform converts customer-provided antibody sequences into purified proteins, allowing scientists to evaluate a larger number of candidates before deciding which ones should move into further development.

Twist Express Screening Antibodies supports several antibody formats, including full-length IgG, single-chain variable fragment-Fc (scFv-Fc) and variable new antigen receptor-Fc (VHH-Fc). The service uses LenioBio’s ALiCE eukaryotic cell-free protein expression system to support rapid protein production.

Purified antibodies are available in quantities ranging from 5 micrograms to 20 micrograms and can be moved directly into SPR binding analysis.

The new offering is designed to address a growing challenge in antibody discovery. AI-powered research tools are now helping scientists generate and explore much larger numbers of potential antibody candidates. However, testing these candidates in the laboratory remains an important step before selecting those suitable for further development.

Twist believes its new service can help close this gap by providing researchers with faster access to experimental data. This could allow drug developers to compare more candidates, repeat experiments more quickly and focus their resources on antibodies with the strongest potential.

Emily M. Leproust, PhD, CEO and co-founder of Twist Bioscience, said the growing use of AI in drug discovery is increasing the number of antibody candidates that researchers can explore. She highlighted the importance of having fast and scalable laboratory services to turn these candidates into useful experimental data.

The new service also complements Twist’s existing antibody production and characterization capabilities. After initial screening, selected candidates can move into more detailed development and testing workflows using the company’s HEK293 or Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) expression systems.

These systems support further antibody production and more comprehensive characterization, helping researchers progress from early screening towards the development of potential therapeutic candidates.

The launch reflects Twist Bioscience’s broader strategy to support pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with tools that connect AI-based discovery with laboratory research.

As AI continues to expand the possibilities in antibody drug discovery, faster experimental testing could become increasingly important for identifying promising treatments. With Twist Express Screening Antibodies, the company aims to help researchers evaluate larger candidate sets and make drug discovery programmes more efficient.
