The 20 start-ups leading the way in microbiome-based skincare

Asia Pacific has always been at the forefront of consumer probiotics and has some of the most exciting markets for fermented and probiotic skincare. When L’Oréal announced their FY 2018 results earlier this year, China and Hong Kong were among their fastest growing markets. The presence of L’Oréal’s Microbiome Centre of Excellence in Singapore represents the significance of skin microbiome for multinational cosmetics companies in Asia.

As K-Beauty and J-Beauty continue to storm the world, beauty start-ups are also emerging from Australia, India and across Southeast Asia. Kisaco Research have put together an insightful Top 20 list of the SMEs that they think are leading the way with truly exciting and varied approaches to microbiome-based skincare.

Alongside those brands that area already gaining worldwide acclaim, this ‘Top 20’ list, excitingly, also includes some lesser known beauty companies from Japan, Korea and Australia.

“There is a lot of investment coming in the Skin Microbiome sector, a lot of new products, a lot of new ingredients… the future is very, very bright.”
