Cognizant Extends Gilead Partnership to Expand AI-Enabled DevOps
Cognizant has extended its partnership with Gilead Sciences for five years to support the biopharmaceutical company’s technology programs, with a focus on DevOps and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
Under the agreement, Cognizant will help Gilead strengthen its DevOps capabilities and apply agentic AI tools across selected technology programs. The work will combine Cognizant’s technology and life sciences experience to help simplify processes, improve technology delivery and support Gilead’s priority programs more efficiently.
The expanded partnership builds on more than a decade of collaboration between the two companies. During this period, Cognizant has supported parts of Gilead’s global IT infrastructure, platforms, applications and advanced analytics.
The latest agreement will expand support for AI-enabled capabilities as Gilead continues to assess practical applications of AI across its technology environment. Cognizant said the focus will be on practical use cases that can improve operational efficiency and help Gilead’s teams deliver technology programs more effectively.
For Gilead, the collaboration is aimed at strengthening the technology systems that support its business and scientific activities. The company is also evaluating responsible ways to use AI while maintaining reliable and efficient technology operations.
Anna Berg Asberg, Global CIO of Gilead, said the agreement will provide additional support as the company strengthens its DevOps capabilities and explores practical uses of AI across its technology environment.
Surya Gummadi, President of the Americas at Cognizant, said the company will bring together its life sciences experience, DevOps capabilities and AI tools to support Gilead’s selected technology programs.
The partnership comes as pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies increasingly adopt AI to improve technology operations, data management and drug development processes. For Gilead, the expanded agreement provides additional technology support as it continues to invest in digital capabilities alongside its work in developing medicines.
Cognizant’s latest work with Gilead also builds on an earlier expansion of their partnership, announced in 2025, which focused on using generative AI and other advanced technologies to improve business processes, employee experiences and operational efficiency.
The five-year extension further strengthens the long-running relationship between the two companies and positions AI-enabled DevOps as an important part of Gilead’s technology strategy.
