Piramal Pharma has completed the acquisition of an additional 40.67% stake in Yapan Bio, a Hyderabad-based contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) focused on vaccines and biologics.
The transaction, completed on August 18, 2026, was valued at ₹76 crore ($7.95 million) in cash. Following the deal, Piramal Pharma now owns 74% of Yapan Bio, making the company a subsidiary of Piramal Pharma.
The acquisition strengthens Piramal Pharma’s presence in the biologics market and expands the large-molecule capabilities available through its contract development and manufacturing services.
Yapan Bio specializes in the development and manufacturing of vaccines and biologic products. Its capabilities will now become part of Piramal Pharma Solutions (PPS), the company’s global CDMO business.
Piramal Pharma said the integration will allow it to offer customers a broader range of services for complex biologic therapies. The company also expects the additional capabilities to help customers develop and scale biologic products more efficiently.
The acquisition also supports ADCelerate, Piramal Pharma Solutions’ integrated platform for antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) development. The platform is designed to support Phase I ADC programs from research and development through Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) production in as little as 12 months.
Yapan Bio’s capabilities are expected to further strengthen the ADCelerate platform and support Piramal Pharma’s efforts to help customers advance ADC programs more quickly.
The deal is part of Piramal Pharma’s broader strategy to expand its capabilities in complex biologics and strengthen its position as a global CDMO partner.
Peter DeYoung, CEO of Piramal Global Pharma, said the investment will help the company respond to growing demand for complex biologic medicines. He added that bringing Yapan Bio’s specialized expertise into Piramal Pharma’s global network will support customers developing treatments for patients worldwide.
With Yapan Bio now operating as a majority-owned subsidiary, Piramal Pharma is positioned to combine its global development and manufacturing network with Yapan Bio’s expertise in vaccines and biologics.
The transaction marks another step in the company’s efforts to expand its large-molecule services and provide pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with more integrated solutions for developing and manufacturing complex therapies.
