FUJIFILM Corporation and Taiho Pharmaceutical have formed a strategic partnership to advance manufacturing technologies for next-generation antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), aiming to strengthen the production of innovative cancer therapies and improve their global competitiveness in one of the fastest-growing areas of biopharmaceutical research.
Under the agreement, the two Japanese companies will jointly develop and optimize manufacturing processes for ADC candidates being developed by Taiho Pharmaceutical using AraLinQ™, a proprietary antibody-drug conjugate platform created by Araris Biotech AG, a subsidiary of Taiho Pharmaceutical.
The collaboration combines Taiho Pharmaceutical’s expertise in antibody-drug conjugate discovery with Fujifilm’s extensive experience in biologics process development and contract manufacturing. Together, the companies intend to establish reliable production methods capable of consistently delivering high-quality ADCs while supporting future commercial manufacturing.
Antibody-drug conjugates have become one of the most promising treatment approaches in oncology over the past decade. These therapies combine highly targeted antibodies with powerful cancer-killing agents, enabling drugs to selectively attack tumor cells while reducing damage to healthy tissues. Fujifilm brings significant manufacturing expertise to the collaboration through its global biologics contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) business. The company has extensive experience in developing manufacturing processes for antibody-based medicines and has invested heavily in expanding its biologics production capabilities worldwide.
Its group company, FUJIFILM Toyama Chemical, is also preparing to launch Japan’s first integrated ADC CDMO service in 2027. The planned service will provide pharmaceutical companies with end-to-end manufacturing support covering every stage of ADC production, including antibody manufacturing, payload conjugation and final drug product manufacturing.
The companies believe this integrated approach will simplify development and production for pharmaceutical innovators while helping accelerate the delivery of new cancer therapies to patients.
Under the partnership, Fujifilm and Taiho will initially focus on refining manufacturing processes for Taiho’s ADC pipeline. As those development programs advance, the collaboration is expected to expand into broader technical cooperation aimed at strengthening manufacturing technology platforms and establishing long-term production systems capable of supporting sustainable global supply.
The agreement reflects growing industry investment in manufacturing capabilities as demand for ADC therapies continues to increase.
