AtomVie Opens $160 Million Radiopharmaceutical Facility in Canada

AtomVie Global Radiopharma (AtomVie) has officially opened a new radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Hamilton, Ontario, marking a major expansion of its production capabilities in North America.

The new facility, located at 10 Aeropark Boulevard, represents an investment of more than $160 million. Covering 72,300 square feet, the site is described as the largest single-site contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) facility for radiopharmaceutical development in North America to date.

The facility is designed to support radiopharmaceutical programs at different stages, from early development through commercial manufacturing. It includes production capabilities for both low- and high-throughput manufacturing and is expected to increase AtomVie’s overall manufacturing capacity by more than ten times.

The site has also been designed with future growth in mind. Dedicated and customizable areas will allow AtomVie to expand operations as its clients move their radiopharmaceutical programs from clinical development into commercial production.

AtomVie was established as a spinout of the Centre for Probe Development and Commercialization (CPDC), a McMaster University-based Centre of Excellence focused on advancing radiopharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing in Canada.

The company has built its operations on more than a decade of experience in radiopharmaceutical development, process development and analytical methods. AtomVie has supported more than 70 clinical development and technology transfer programs and has manufactured over 1,000 current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) batches.

Its products have also supported patients internationally, with more than 4,400 cGMP doses delivered across 28 countries and six continents. The company reports a delivery success rate of more than 99%.

With the new Hamilton facility, AtomVie aims to help its partners increase production as their radiopharmaceutical candidates progress through clinical development and toward commercial use.

Bruno Paquin, Chief Executive Officer of AtomVie, said the new site represents an important milestone for the company and Canadian nuclear medicine innovation. He added that the facility will allow AtomVie to combine its scientific expertise and global delivery capabilities to support the development and commercialization of radiopharmaceutical pipelines.

Kevin McNeill, Chairman of AtomVie’s Board of Directors, said the facility reflects the company’s growth and the confidence of its partners. He noted that the new site gives AtomVie commercial-scale capabilities while maintaining the reliability needed in the radiopharmaceutical industry.

The grand opening brought together government representatives, clients, partners and members of the radiopharmaceutical community. Attendees were given tours of the new facility and an overview of AtomVie’s capabilities in supporting the development of next-generation precision cancer therapies.

The expansion comes as radiopharmaceuticals continue to attract growing interest as a targeted approach to cancer treatment. By increasing its manufacturing capacity, AtomVie aims to help pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies move promising radiopharmaceutical therapies from development to patients around the world.
