Novo Nordisk Tries disposal program for patients in California

NovoNordisk pilots an education and disposal program for Californian patients to purge sharp products to safely use the company’s medicines that are otherwise delivered by a syringe or pen injector with an attached or removable needle/sharp. As declared by the company patients can obtain a free sharps container by registering online that once filled can be shipped for disposal without bearing any cost to the patient.

Todd Hobbs, MD, U.S. Chief Medical Officer, Novo Nordisk states “We know from experience, including my own as a person living with type 1 diabetes that people want a safe and convenient way to dispose of their needles and sharps. This NovoCare program offers an easy process to keep themselves and their loved ones free from the possibility of unnecessary needle exposure.”

The program even includes safety tips for patients for safe disposal in a strong, plastic container and a few others like not discarding sharps loosely into the trash or that should be never be recycled to be disposed of like all other sharps in case they retract after use.
